Unfortunately, many students struggle to understand what they read and play a passive, rather than active role, in the reading process. This course presents an overview of strategies to enhance comprehension for students and make them actively engage with texts.
Course objectives
- Understand how to teach strategies to support reading comprehension.
- Understand the key strategies to support reading comprehension through asking questions, inferring/visualising, determining importance, and summarising.
- Apply the knowledge acquired on cognitive/metacognitive strategies to develop the skill of reading comprehension.
- Reflect on one’s own practice and think of the main strategies to be used throughout a lesson.
Target Audience
Arabic teachers who teach from grade 7 to Grade 12, Arabic Middle leaders.
