Differentiation
Differentiation
Posted by : admin | On : May 25, 2021This course will explore the concept of differentiation through the research of Carol Ann Tomlinson. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on why we differentiate as well as discussing practices already utilised and embedded. Participants will consolidate their understanding of content, process, product, and environment differentiation by reflecting on explicit examples of how this is observable in practice within the classroom. A common misconception with differentiation is that it is focused too heavily upon the final ‘product’ of the lesson; in this course participants will be taken through the differentiation journey by exploring how differentiation is an intrinsic and constant practice throughout a lesson that serves to support student readiness, interest, and learner profile. Participants will explore a carousel of activities that encourages them to reflect on how we differentiate through:
- The learning objective and success criteria
- Tiered questions to challenge thinking
- Tiered activities aligned to the BLOOMS pyramid
- Teaching methods and strategies
- Targeted feedback linked to the success criteria In the final part of the session, participants will be encouraged to reflect on the session and strategies used and to consider their implementation.
Course objectives
- To identify the concept of differentiation and its importance.
- To experiment and explore a variety of differentiation strategies.
- To adapt and implement differentiation strategies to support learner needs.
