Navigating Pathways: College and Career Counselling Essentials

This course is designed to equip high school college and career counsellors with the knowledge, skills, and strategies necessary to support students in their college and career journeys. This comprehensive course covers key topics such as university and career exploration, application processes, financial aid and scholarships, individualised planning for PODs, transition planning, stakeholder collaboration, and creating a whole-school college and career readiness program. Through a combination of theoretical knowledge, practical exercises, case studies, and assessments, participants will enhance their counselling effectiveness, cultural competence, and ability to provide personalised guidance to empower students for success in college and careers.

This programme aspires to:

  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of college and career counselling principles, theories, and practices, equipping participants with the knowledge and skills necessary to support students effectively in their college and career journeys.
  • Equip participants with practical strategies for individualised planning, including assistance with university and career exploration, application processes, financial aid and scholarships, transition planning, and stakeholder collaboration, fostering a supportive and inclusive environment that empowers students for success in their college and career pursuits.
  • Empower college and career counsellors to create and implement a school-wide college and career readiness program

that promotes a culture of preparedness, exploration, and equitable access to educational and career opportunities for all students.

How the course is assessed: Attendance to the session and completion of the evaluation and reflection is mandatory to complete the course and receive a certificate of attendance.
