Supporting Teaching and Learning Programme

The STL course aims to provide quality CPD for support assistants in Aldar Education schools in order to develop consistent and high-quality practice in terms of knowledge, understanding and skills for the role. Content has been developed from the collective experience and knowledge of esteemed practitioners and educators. All modules within the programme have been designed to build on support staff’s skills, knowledge and understanding through ‘in the moment’ and role applicable ‘apply tasks’. The course will cover supporting students with learning activities, behaviour management, supporting PoD learners, supporting use of digital technology, assessment for learning and supporting English language learners.

This programme aspires to:

  •  Develop the quality of teaching and learning support offered by support assistants in AE Schools.
  • Provide professional development of the highest quality with tailored support and guidance.
  • Employ and retain support staff through outstanding training provision.

Target Audience: Support Staff (Classroom Assistant, Inclusion Assistants, Science Technicians etc.)

Certification: ATA Certificate of Attendance

How the course is assessed: Participants must successfully complete all of the ‘Apply’ Tasks, obtaining a minimum grade of 1. Furthermore, they must complete two formal lesson observations and complete a reflective account of their learning.

Prerequisites: Staff must be working in a school in a support assistant role
