This course will provide Middle Leaders (ML) with the opportunity to identify a range of difficult contexts and complexities which arise when engaging with parents or staff regarding sensitive issues such as mental health disorders, concerns around neglect or abuse and special educational needs. This is for leaders who wish to enhance skills in managing difficult or sensitive conversations with parents or staff in relation to vulnerable students. The course will allow ML to explore a range of communication management strategies, identifying PINs (Positions, Interests, Needs), utilize mediation, compassionate curiosity and restorative practice, and identify the personal attributes necessary to manage sensitive conversations as an effective Middle Leader. Through examination of case studies, and application of skills, you will discuss and examine effective approaches for the ML, demonstrate the necessary language and soft skills, and be able to summarize your intentions and anticipated outcomes as a leader when managing difficult conversations.
